Research Steps

    _____1. Choose subject.

    _____2. Find at least 3 different sources.

    _____3. Fill out bibliography forms. (Have your teacher check these)

    _____4. Take notes on important facts. (Key words only. No sentences. Do extras. Make sure info. is true.

                    Make sure "for what reasons" are convincing, likes and un-likes are true, and examples are specific. )

    _____5. Sort notes into topic piles, clip together, write topic on each note card.

    _____6. Decide best order, write them on topic outline form.

    _____7. Sort each topic pile into related subtopics.

    _____8. Number note cards; fill in numbers on outline form.

    _____9. Plan sentence patterns.

    _____10. Think of other names for your subject using subject form.

    _____11. Write topic sentences on outline form and also on blue cards. Place blue card on top of topic pile.

    _____12. Write introductory paragraph on outline form. This tells what your report will be saying.

    _____13. Write concluding paragraph. Tell most important things from each paragraph. Opinions are okay.

    _____14. Write rough draft.

    _____15. Write bibliography.

      _____16. Revise, proofread, and write final copy.
